Hey guys, I was just wondering if I could charge my new camcorder (bought in America) in England. I know the voltage is different there, and that the camcorder comes with an adaptor to charging. Problem is, my supposedly tech-savy uncle tells me that I need to buy an addition battery charger so that I will get to right voltage. Anyone know? Thanks!

Check the HG20 charger you have... Multi-voltage. Says so on the charger and in the camcorder's instruction manual. All you need is the adapter prong things. Use the same charger, but the adapter turns the "blades" that plug into US AC outlets into the prongs the UK outlets ("mains") use. I got an AC adapter travel kit last year and did not use the AC converter fo my camcorder battery recharge - just the adapter prongs.

Not now. I'm in Scotland (same immigration laws) and my girlfriend is from the US. There are very specific guidelines now so you need to be pretty highly qualified first. Otherwise it might be easier to try and get a Student Visa and move up to a work one, or look at working holidaymaker visa.

I was offered a job in england and my employer wants me to contribute for the processing of my working permit. Should I send money or they should shoulder the processing and the expenses? She is also a doctor, but she was a nurse first; therefore, she keeps her nursing license, M.D. credentials and also her teaching certification. She knows ( but she is not at all pompous) it all and I talk to her everyday. I know of one time she nursed at the US Virgin Islands St. Thomas. So if you want, I can ask her. If no one else knows, give me a note.

Basically, for an employer to give a work permit to a foreigner, they need to pay a hefty fee on your behalf and have some reason why you can do the job better than anyone in all of the EU. The other option for living and working in the UK is something called the highly skilled migrants program which awards points for various things such as age, education and earning power. If you have enough points, you can emmigrate without a work permit and search for work. (if you go over on your visitors visa, you are not allowed to look for work). You would get a certain amount of points for being under 28 years of age and for having a degree, but being fresh out of college, your earning potential would be fairly low and that will probably keep you from qualifying for that program.
I am planning on moving to London when I'm done with college, and using my degree of journalism/writing over in England. Is this do-able? I could really use some imput.

I would suggest u get in touch with several outlets that has to do with journalism of course, newspapers and tvs before u make the move, maybe ur college can refer u to some. as for living here, its very busy, lots of traffic and rains most of the time :)... but it is do-able.

I'm American, wife is British, we live in America and want to live and work in England, which Visa do I need
I'm American, wife is British, we live in America and want to live and work in England, which Visa do I need?
As an American, should I send my wife over to get settled then apply for a spouse visa? Should I line up a job first and have my potential employer apply for a work visa? I am at my wit's end. The UK home office site does not address these issues very well. I'm lost in knowing which way to choose. There has to be mixed nationality couples from America and England that have gone through this process before...please help!

You will need to be able to show that you can live there without any help from public funds. So she may need to find a job that can support you both before you apply. If she goes over first, rents a small place and takes the first job she can get that should be plenty. The spousal visa process is pretty fast so you two needn't be apart for long. One couple I know did it without the wife leaving as a family friend gave then a lease on a property she owned and a relative wrote to them both with job offers. A week after getting there they had the spousal visa in hand. When they got to the UK they had to stay with family until they found a real place to stay and they both got real job offers.

How does hotel rooms work in the England?
How many beds is there in a standard double room in an England? Is it just 1 double bed? What kind of room would have 2 double (big) beds? Can someone list bed size in order? Largest to smallest. Double, King, Single, Twin Please answer the first two questions as well!! That is the most important part I need to know!

Hi, Yes, in a standard double room there will just be one double bed. I don't know of any hotel rooms where there would be 2 double beds, you might have to just book 2 separate rooms, or maybe a family room if they have one, and push 2 single beds together if needed as a double. See my explanation of the room types available in England/UK. Hope this helps.... Single is one single bed. A very small room. Twin is two single beds. Probably smaller than average sized room Double is one double bed in a good sized room. King is a larger bed in a larger room. Also, a family room normally has a double bed and two singles, or double bed and bunk beds ( one on top of the other, normally for children ). Again, hope this helps.
