Are American students legally able to work while studying abroad in England?
Are there any special paperwork and legal requirements for American students to be able to work in London, England while studying abroad there?

you would need to apply for a special Visa to work in the UK, theres loads of different types of Visa's, some only include studying, some include work and study. go to http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/ it should tell you how to apply

A Tier 4 student visa holder' permission to work will depend on the level of the course of study. If the course of study is below degree level, but not a foundation degree course, the student is allowed to work a maximum of 10 hours per week during term term with no restrictions during vacations. If the course of study is at degree level or above, or is a foundation degree course, the student is allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term term with no restrictions during vacations. At this level of study work placements are also allowed provided they are no longer than half the length of the course.
