How does the schooling system work in England

How does the schooling system work in England?
I'm just curious, I always knew that the schooling system would be different from where I live in Canada, but in the YA questions I've read, it seems A LOT more different than I thought it would be. Can someone explain their education system. Like here it's Elementary School Middle School High School Community College/College/University Then Grad school if you get a Bachelors degree. What's it liek there? Thanks in advance :) wow, its really not that different, lol, great answers though ill pick one when it lets me :)

2 :
Age 0-3 - Nursery (optional) Age 4-11 - Primary school Age 12-16 - Secondary school Age 17/18 - College (optional) Age 18+ University (optional) We also have apprenticeships where at 18+ you can go to work with someone who does a job, and learn how to do their job. These are called NVQ training.
3 :
Primary school Secondary school 16-18 College/school (most secondary schools offer this) University

Well in Scotland it goes like this : ages 4/5 usally 5 - Primary School Ages 11/12 - Secondary School Age 16 - you can leave school or stay on at secondary Age 18 - Secondary 6th year Then you can go to College or University or go into a job You have to stay on till you are 16 and once then you can go into college to do highers (whatever you want) then you can go into University.

Hmm English education system I can't help you with in detail but I think it's similar to our education system (Scotland) Here's how ours goes: Nursery School (ages 3-4) Primary School (5-11) Academy (11-17) (Secondary School) College (if you didn't get the grades you need to get into Uni, if you did you can go straight to University after school, or if you just want to do a college course which you can reach a Higher National Diploma as the highest certificate which is equivalent to 2nd year at University) University where we get all our degrees from Bachelors to Masters and Phd's etc.

Anyone know how long of a day a factory worker would work in England during the 1780's

Anyone know how long of a day a factory worker would work in England during the 1780's?
Also anyone know what kind of things were being made at the factories? Anything big involving metal?

12 to 15 hours a day. The English industrial revolution was brutal beyond belief, The factories turned out all sorts of commercial/indusrial and consumer goods, and killed their workers in the process. Foundries, turning out large metal objects like steam engines for other factories, were not common but there were some.

maybe about 10-12 hours including children. Remember there weren't any child labor laws back then.

David Rowland worked as a scavenger at a textile mill in Manchester. He was interviewed by Michael Sadler's House of Commons Committee on 10th July, 1832. Question: At what age did you commence working in a cotton mill? Answer: Just when I had turned six. Question: What employment had you in a mill in the first instance? Answer: That of a scavenger. Question: Will you explain the nature of the work that a scavenger has to do? Answer: The scavenger has to take the brush and sweep under the wheels, and to be under the direction of the spinners and the piecers generally. I frequently had to be under the wheels, and in consequence of the perpetual motion of the machinery, I was liable to accidents constantly. I was very frequently obliged to lie flat, to avoid being run over or caught. This may also interest you. My husband is in the Air Force. Can I work in England

My husband is in the Air Force. Can I work in England?
Hi, my husband in in the US Air Force, and we will be stationed in England. I am wondering if I can get a job in England, not on base, off base. I am a certified chef, and would like to learn and have cooking experience while I am there. Do I need to apply for a work permitt to work off base in England?

You can work on base. (Why would you ever even want to leave the base?)
2 :
Most likely you could work off base. As far as a work permit not sure but while I was in they accepted the spouse of military person to work outside the post. I would check your local USO or PCS station to find some of this information out...
3 :
Technically, yes. And a work visa. But there are lots of spouses who do it all the time. Just remember that the UK has an EXTREMELY high taxation rate, and you'll end up paying in about 40% of your salary to taxes and the NHS, and you can't opt out of either one. On the up side, you can choose to either exlude your foreign earned income (form 2555) or recieve a credit for taxes paid to a foreign gov't (form 1116). Which base are you headed to? We are currrently stationed in the UK. Feel free to contact me off YA.
4 :
you should be able to..a base agency will be able to let you know if you can.when we lived in japan there were quite a few spouses who worked off base and didnt have to have anything other than their passport...
5 :
depends on the SOFA regulations. Most do NOT permit spouses to work on the economy, as that is taking jobs away from Local Citizens.

Just as for the US, there are several types of visa. However, it does not take as long as it does in the US to get them. See the website for details.
