No, you can't change your status once you're in the UK If you enter the UK as a tourist, you leave as a tourist - you can't even look for work while you're here If you want to live & work in the UK, you need to return home & apply from there The only other way around it is if you can citizenship of an EU member state through a parent (or grandparent in a limited number of countries) but you would still have needed to enter the UK on that country's passport in order to legally live & work in the UK

My husband has dual US/UK citizenship. Do I need a visa to work in England?
My husband and I are planning on moving to England in the next six months. We have been married for three years. Do I need to get a visa to work in England even though he has his British citizenship? If so, how do I get one and how long does it take to get one?

You must get a visa before you travel to the UK as a husband, wife, civil partner, fiancé, fiancée, proposed civil partner, or unmarried or same-sex partner. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf4husbandswivespartners You can apply to join your husband, wife, civil partner, fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner in the UK as long as: * they currently live and are settled in the UK, or * they are coming to live permanently in the UK, and * they are not under 21 You must show that: * you are legally married to each other or are in a civil partnership recognised in the UK * your husband, wife or civil partner is present and settled in the UK (see the next section) * you both intend to live together permanently as husband and wife or as civil partners * you have met each other before * you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds * you have suitable accommodation, which is owned or lived in only by you and your household, and where you and your dependants can live without any help from public funds * your husband, wife or civil partner is not under 21, and * you are not under 21. At first, you will be allowed to stay and work in the UK for two years. Near the end of this time, if you are still married and intend to continue living together, you can apply to stay permanently in the UK. The UK Border Agency will deal with your application to stay permanently in the UK. Before the end of your probationary two years Leave to Enter (LTE) has expired you will need to apply to the UK Border Agency for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK. When you do this you will be required to pay a non-refundable fee and provide certain documents as specified on the UK Border Agency website: Form SET (M) and guidance notes. Before we can give you permission to stay in the UK permanently, you will need to pass the 'Life in the UK' test. If you and your husband, wife or civil partner have been living together outside the UK for four years or more, and you meet all the necessary requirements to stay permanently in the UK, you may be granted indefinite leave to enter. These requirements include showing that you have the necessary level of knowledge of the English language and life in the UK.

3 :
You do NOT get citizenship automatically just because HE has citizenship. You are NOT entitled to that. Noone is anymore. YES you MUST apply for a settlement visa for you to legally live and work in UK. You must LIVE in UK for 4 years before you are eligible to apply for british citizenship.

I don't think so, I tried getting cheats for a ds game and there's different codes for north american and europe so that probably means the games are different there just like the dvd's are.

Well, it's not going to stop functioning as soon as you cross the pond! Keep in mind that you'll need a power converter so you'll be able to charge it.

the games may be zone coded meaning that your games from the UK will continue to work fine BUT any games that you buy in Canada for the DSi may not work because the games and the machine have different zone codes, much like DVDs

How does schooling work in England

How does schooling work in England?
I'm writing a fictional novel where the main character is English attending an English high school. I'm Australian so I obviously have no clue how it works so some help would be great. I need to know things like how does it work, when do you get to start choosing subjects, what kind of subjects do you take, how different are public schools from private schools there and similar things. Thanks in advance.

The school years start off as reception. then go on to year 1, year 2 right up to year 11. From reception to year 10 you are taught compulsory subjects such as maths English, science, geography, physical education(P.E), history, religious education(R.E) and personal social health education (PSHE). in year 10 however, you take your options. Options consist of some compulsory subjects (maths, English, science, RE, PSHE, P.E) and then whatever else you choose you can take a GCSE in any subject that you have previously done or some new ones. Primary schools take years reception through to year 6. Secondary school take years 7 through to year 11. Private schools aren't much different, they just have smaller classes (15 to 20 as opposed to about 30 at a public school) and a higher teacher to pupil ratio. The subject options are business studies, sports studies, I.T multimedia, art, music, drama, graphics, food, resistant materials, electronics, textiles, French, German and a few others I hope that this helps and good luck with your novel.
2 :
My friend went to school in England for most of her life, so I'll get her to type this out. Firstly, in England, public schools & private schools are the same thing. The equivalent of a public school there is called a state school. In England, schooling generally starts at age 3, when one enters Nursery, although this is not compulsory. The next year is Reception (entered at age 4), then years 1 through to 6. You study literacy (English), maths, science, humanities (history & geography), art, music, ICT (computers) and PE (physical education). You sometimes study RE (religious education). In state schools, in Year 2 (aged 6-7) & Year 6 (aged 10-11) you take 3 exams called SATs in literacy, maths and science. In private school, you usually take exams every year. Nursery to Year 6 are all in Primary School. The school day is usually from 9AM to 3PM, with two 30 minute breaks in the day, and an hour for lunch at 12PM. Private schools usually have about 120 students. State schools have around 240 students. You start Secondary School at age 11, going into Year 7. You study English, maths, science, history, geography, art, music, ICT (computers), citizenship, design technology, a foreign language and PE (physical education). You sometimes study RE (religious education). In Year 9 (age 13-14), you used to take SATs, but these are not done any more. In Year 10 (aged 14-15), you choose the subjects you want to take for GCSE. A GCSE is an examination made up of formal exams and coursework, which is taken in one subject. You can get grades from A* (best) to G (worst). You usually take around 10 or 11 GCSEs. English, Maths, RE, Citizenship, ICT and Science are compulsory GCSEs, and PE must be done once a week (but doesn't have to be taken as a GCSE). GCSEs are completed in Year 11 (15-16). You need at least 5 A*-C grade GCSEs to get into college. The school day is usually from 8:30AM to 3:30PM, with one 30 minute break in the morning, and an hour for lunch at 12:30PM. There are about 5-6 classes in the day, but all schools differ. Private schools usually have about 600 students. State schools have around 1200 students. At 16, you can leave school, or stay on at your school for 6th Form College, where you take A-Levels, which are like GCSEs but on a more difficult, higher level. The grading system is the same, and you usually take 3 or 4 A-Levels. You leave 6th Form at age 18. If you need any more info, mail me.

Primary & Secondary Education - 1 Answers

In the US: Elementary School starts: 1st grade = 6-7 years old Middle School starts starts: 6th grade = 11-12 years old High School starts: 9th grade = 14-15 years old ends 12th Grade, age 18. In the UK: Primary School starts at age 4 with a sort of internal pre-school class, and starts properly at age 5 in "Year 1" Secondary School starts in year 7 at age 11 Secondary School ends in year 11 at age 16 Sixth form follows at ages 17 and 18, but is not compulsory. Sixth forms are often part of secondary schools, but are sometimes separate. So, in the UK, children starting Year 1 will be 5, and most will be 6 by the time they finish. The rest you can figure out from there.

How would my wife be able to work in England

How would my wife be able to work in England?
I'm a dual US/UK citizen (born in the UK to British parents), now living in Florida. My wife has applied for a zoo-keeping job in the UK, but the employer says she'll need a work permit before they even consider her. Is it possible for her to get a work permit without a job offer or sponsorship? Is she at any kind of advantage being married to a UK citizen for three+ years?
Immigration - 2 Answers

1 :
If she has a Masters or PhD she can apply for the Tier 1 visa which does not require company sponsorship. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier1/general/eligibility/
2 :
If you are a UK citizen (i.e. hold a British Passport), she can apply for the Fiance Visa, which is much easier to obtain than the Tier 1 Visa. The Fiance Visa will allow her the unrestricted right to work and live in the UK (as long as she is married to you), but has to be renewed periodically. After 2 years of staying in the UK under the Fiance Visa, she can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) which will give her the permanent right to stay and work in the UK, and from there, citizenship. With both the Fiance Visa and Tier 1, she can get it before finding a job. However, applying for it while overseas might be a bit complicated.

Most common law countries give some credit for education and experience, but usually require some re-certification before the person can actually practice in the new jurisdiction. This may be a simple informal process, or it may be a bar-exam type test.
2 :
Canadian law is based on the British legal system, however, a lawyer (there are no solicitors in Canada) from England or any other Commonwealth country would have to take the bar examination before being allowed to practice law in Canada. I suspect before taking the exam an upgrade in Canadian law would be required.
3 :
You're kidding right? Is Canada a part of England?? What kind of soliciter are you if you can't see that there are differences between the laws of two different countries?

if i buy canon camera in america will it work in england

if i buy canon camera in america will it work in england?
it sounds a silly question but if i buy the canon powershot camera in america, will i be able to use it in england? the reason i ask this is because dvd's have different region codes so i was wondering about the cameras! i mean will the camera work with things that connect to it and stuff.. like if i bought a charger from england or anything that connects to the camera from england, will it all work together properly?
Cameras - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes. As long as you take a tape or DVD to use with you. You can't charge it there though unless you have a converter. Electrical sockets are different there.
2 :
You will need to check and see if the video feature has a NTSC and PAL option. Otherwise all you will have to do is supply the correct mains plug adapter from US to UK
3 :
As long as you have a charger for 220 voltage and the correct wall plug yes. I also agree with David that you'll need to record video in PAL to have it work correctly there if you plan to play back on a television. NTSC is the US standard, PAL in Europe and the UK. If your camera has the option to record in either you'll be fine. If it's only NTSC you'll have problems there.
4 :
But why buy it in the US if you live in England? The warranty will be good only in the US, so you would have to send it to the US for any repair. If you are living in the US and going to England for vacation or to live temporarily, then, of course it will work there! It just needs the converter for the charger.

Could a massive repatriation program (like the one proposed by the BNP for England) work in America

Could a massive repatriation program (like the one proposed by the BNP for England) work in America?
To return non-Caucasian people back to their homelands?
Politics - 30 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
what a sick, disgusting thought or idea. In that case, we should return everyone but the American Indians back to their countries of origin. They are the true natives of this country.
2 :
No, it could not.
3 :
No. Our natives weren't Caucasian to begin with.
4 :
No.
5 :
they did that once, long long time ago, america brought land in africa and gave any freed slave after the civil war free passage to there own new country, that country was and still is called Liberia from the word liberty. the blacks of america were given complete rule of Liberia and sent there because many did not know what was there original homes were in africa. if you look at Liberia today you might notice its not that different from the rest of the continent.
6 :
Only if you like civil war. Can you imagine the people in theUK or the USA fighting each other. Can you imagine the devastation and death. It would make 9 / 11 look like a picnic.
7 :
North America is not the Caucasian 'homeland'. We'd be kicking ourselves out, sounds pretty dumb.
8 :
Are you INSANE ? The BNP is needed in UK and in all of Europe due to Political Correctness , MASS Immigration and Destruction of Native European culture In USA they don't need to kick out non Caucasians They just need to destroy the stronghold of '' tolerance ''/'multiculturalism'/'diversity' in the media , the academia and the liberals Plus they need to punch the faces of the few right wing extremists USA needs Paleo Conservatism (Fiscal/Social Conservative/Military/etc) and destroy Affirmative Action , the craziness and fakeness of Hollywood and the liberalism
9 :
No, You are right, all black people in America should be repatriated back to Africa because all of their ancestors were forcibly removed from their own land that they loved so much and made into slaves, they didn't go there willingly like the European explorers who discovered America and the early settlers who went there who opened up the land to agriculture medicine and industry and all of the people who brought knowledge and technology to the country, they went there willingly to build a Nation free of the corruption and bondage of the Old Word Aristocracy and now you have a politically correct appointee president who is going to create an expansionist war that is going to envelope the whole world while the American Constitution and The Bill of Right are quietly reinterpreted, reformed and rewritten. If you want to support a party that will return America back to the people who really built and contributed the most to Her Greatness, then you are only being Patriotic not racist. You should consider getting rid of all of your moslems as well because they are only there to take over and impose Sharia Law on us all.
10 :
The only trouble with taking ideas off the BNP is that they are a fascist party. Whats wrong with you? Didn't enough Americans die in World War 2 for you? Why would you want to bring back fascism?? As has previously been pointed out. Caucasians are not native to North America, so sending everyone who is not white back to where they come from doesn't make sense. Even if it did the arguements against it are the same as the one's in Britain. 1. Where do you send somebody who has a Caribbean, Nigerian, Chinese and Tongan Grandparent. 2. I don't know where you came from but if I offered you a few thousand dollars to live in a country you have never been to where you don't understand the language, culture, food and local laws, would you take it? 3. What do you do with people who are in inter racial marriage? If the government came round to your house and said that your significant other had to move to another country, would you accept it? Do me a favour, don't listen to the BNP, they are the lunatic fringe in the UK. As an American you would find most of the polices far too left wing for your tastes. They believe in government interference on a grand scale. Something most Americans find unacceptable.
11 :
And would you remove the Caucasian people in America back to their homeland?
12 :
Yes.
13 :
It wouldn't even work here in the UK! Anyway, if you want to repatriate people shouldn't it be everyone, including caucasian people? Edit: Bravo Yanqui Rojo Non Pasaran!
14 :
No, it couldn't. It can't work in England, and it can't work here. And speaking for myself, I would shoot at anyone who came to my door with the intention of "repatriating" me or any member of my multiracial family. I think that fascists, racists and "ethnic nationalists" need to be "returned" to their original chemical components. Long periods buried underground with worms and bacteria would assist them in this return. I would be honored to help make arrangements for these long periods, just as my father did for a number of Nazis. .
15 :
Europeans went to a great deal of effort to ship all of its criminals, maniacs and religious loons to the other side of the ocean. Do you really think that they would accept them back?
16 :
Long story short, it's racist and it wouldn't work anywhere. I was going to point out that the BNP are fascist, neo-nazis (almost like a British KKK) but it looks like Wensleydale beat me to it.
17 :
The one point you are missing about the BNP is that they support indigineous peoples rights. They have even said that themselves India for Indians, England for the English so following that America for the Native Americans. The indigineous people of the Americas are not Caucasians.
18 :
Could? Yes. Would? Very unlikely.
19 :
So with whom do you wish to start then? Your President is a non Caucasian person...do you intend that he and the First Lady will be put on a plane and shipped out? I do believe that's called Sedition...or is it treason? Anyway..it's a Capital Crime. Will you be running off Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice then? If so you might find they have some objections to that...seeing as they own quite a bit of valuable real estate in America...and may feel that their years of Military and or Government Service entitle them to citizenship rights. And what of the African American and Asian American judges, police officers, Firemen, Coast guards, military servicemen and women? Are they too on your list of undesirables..to be packaged up and shipped offshore like so much detritus....industrial waste...human garbage? I think you'll find they too have some serious objections to this. Will their Caucasian husbands and wives be shipped out too? Or will they just be labeled "race defilers" as they were in Nazi Germany...and stripped of all citizenship rights. What of their biracial children. How white is white enough to stay...in this grand new America you wish to build? Will a drop of non white blood condemn them to deportation...as it did under the glorious Reich for Jews, Gypsies, Slavs etc? And once you've "repatriated" these people...as Hitler did the Jews...will you be looking to round them up into ghettos and then march them into gas chambers...just as he did? Will you then move on to sterilizing the mentally retarded...killing the mentally ill...experimenting on twins? Because this is just where ideas like this lead.
20 :
wow - the klan meeting must have gotten out early today. i see you still have time to post a few things before church services start...how delightful. so, now that your hood is off and you can hear me, let me answer your question. go back to your trailer and your cousin and be thankful that the native american indians aren't asking to have your inbred redneck @ss repatriated to whatever rock it is you crawled from. now, let the rest of us live in peace and quit giving white people a bad name.
21 :
If you send Arab folks 'back', are you going to send Hispanics too? If you send Hispanic folks 'back', are you going to send Italians too? If you send Italian folk 'back', are you going to send Irish too? If you send Irish folk 'back', are you going to send English and Germans too? The U.S. is a country of immigrants. Where exactly do you plan on drawing your magical cut off line?
22 :
*points and laughs*
23 :
Sure...Where you from? We'll get you right on that plane as fast as we can
24 :
It would be much better to send the Caucasian people back to THEIR homelands in Europe, we real Americans were doing fine until they came here and messed everything up.
25 :
NO. Does this keep you up at night, because of some irrational fears you harbor? Listen, if you want a ticket out, many of us on here would be more than willing to purchase it for you, hell I'll buy it myself. I suggest Somalia, I hear the weather is beautiful.
26 :
America is made up of all colors, No one is more American than the other. We are all citizens of this nation, all colors have made this country free and what it is today. How do you tell someone regardless of skin color that he must leave now because his shade is messing up your landscape of a perfect country in your eyes. I have no problem with different colors or tongues. What I do have a problem with is people that could work for Hitler. There is no such thing as repatriation for true Americans. We have some illegal Aliens that need to get with the program and do it right but that will always be.I am American Indian and we have learned to tolerate even you.
27 :
Every country has its imbeciles, you're one of America's. What about the are-Caucasians?
28 :
you are a FAT,IGNORANT,AND ARROGANT AMERICAN. get out of there..its not your home.
29 :
Brilliant posts before mine! You're an embaressment to Caucasian people. Thank goodness people like you are in the minority. I think if repatriation were ever tried, you'd find caucasians and non caucasians fighting together against white trash like you. I would be at the forefront. It amazes me that people like you know how to read and write, let alone use a computer.
30 :
The answer is simple no, the BNP aren't even considered a credible political party they don't even know what a Caucasian, their manifesto is one of the most confused ones, it claims not to be racist, yet it bars people of certain ethic backgrounds, then when it claims other organizations are racist, it fails to mention that none of them are political parties. Then there is the main thing as a party they have shown to be lazy, incompetent and mendacious as demonstrated by the fact that Richard Barnbrook claimed he mixed up details of murders because he is dyslexic.

I think they have work visas there, but if I recall correctly they are not as easy to come by as they used to be, and I think they are for relatively short periods of time. It can be done though, and as I recall (although this is from pre-terrorist days) it is much easier to do than the other way 'round. One thing though, you probably will be required to have a few of your teeth removed before migrating there ;) (HEY!!! Just teasin')

The requirements for teaching, pass a background check, hold valid teaching degrees, certifacation requirements met for that jurisdiction. Excetion to the rule, home schooling tutor or being home schooled. The student still has to pass school board academia requirements.

Would an electric shaver from America work in England

Would an electric shaver from America work in England?
Going to america this weekend and looking to purchase an electrical shaver but not sure whether once i get back to england that it will work.

You must know your plug-in type, so that would be the 1st clue.
2 :
Yes - BUT - the voltage in America is only 110 volts - the voltage in the UK is 240 volts. Shavers sold in America will be for use on a 110 volt system, unless you already have a 110volt shaver outlet in your bathroom you will need to purchase a voltage converter when you get home again in order to use the shaver in the UK. You will need to purchase something like this :- http://cpc.farnell.com/_/mw2p-045/45w-230-110v-ac-ac-adaptor/dp/PW00942 in order to use the shaver in the UK. ##
3 :
Yep of course, you can buy a plug to plug into the plug of the shaver, and plug the actual plug LOL.. i said plug too much Sorry its like a extension lead..but it plugs into the shaver from other countries...and then plugs in like it does in england!! I hope it helps, because i dont actually know what it is called (sorry) But you will see the name, ask in airports!

If you have a student visa you are allowed to work.

when I was a student in UK I was not allowed to work (I was US) however I have finished in 2000 and that may have changed now.
3 :
Yes you may work in the U.K. However the following restrictions are in place. - You cannot work for more than 20 hours a week during term time unless your placement is part of your studies, has been agreed with your educational institution and leads to a degree or qualification awarded by a nationally recognised examining body. - You cannot do business, be self-employed or provide services as a professional sportsperson or entertainer. - You cannot work full-time in a permanent job.

There are lots of jobs you could do particularly if you stayed in one place for a time. Join an agency, they will find you work.
4 :
Well cash in hand work would be the best if you're only going to work for that short a time. Nobody will employ you for a full time job for a few months. Try construction, security work things like that. First thing you gotta do is find yourself a TNT magazine and look in the back for jobs and stuff, you can find them at some tube stations like Southfields or Earls court. The magazine helps us Saffas out a lot!

I was not aware that you could obtain nationality based on a grandparent under Dutch law as it is only on the basis of a parent and not a grandparent - so you may want to double check this (if you do not have a passport already). http://www.minbuza.nl/en/welcome/DutchCitizens,dutch_nationality/how_can_i_acquire_dutch_nationalityx.html Anyway, if you do have a Dutch passport, then yes you are able to travel and work in the UK without a visa. However, the recession has really hit the UK hard and employment is rising by the day. So again you may want to consider this before making a hasty decision. Good luck

Student dependents must be spouses, unmarried partners or children. You would probably not qualify as an unmarried partner. - You must be both over 21. - You must have lived together for at least two years as a couple and be able to provide evidence to this effect such as joint bank statements, rent agreements, utility bills etc. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/adult-students/family/# If you can meet these criteria, you can only work in the UK as a dependent if your b/f's course is for longer than a year and is degree level or above or is a foundation degree course. The only other options you have are to apply for a student visa in your own right or spend a few months at a time as a visitor. However, if you do this, you can only spend 180 days in any 12 month period as a visitor and you cannot work on a visitor visa. This means that you have to have sufficient funds to prove that you can support yourself for the whole of your stay and prove that you have sufficient ties to your own country so as not to be labelled a risk of overstaying.

How do the schools work in England? (Specifically, High School to college.)

How do the schools work in England? (Specifically, High School to college.)?
I'm thinking about moving in with some relatives in England, but I'm curious as to how the schools work. What grades are there? I heard you only go until you are 16 years old, but here we go until 18. Help?

Secondary school (high school) is for 11-16 year olds. education after that is not compulsary. Unlike in the states collage is free.
2 :
Yep, over here compulsory schooling finishes at 16 when you take your GCSE exams, and providing you meet the grades you can then progress to college (optional, but you'd be a fool not to do it - leaving school at 16 to work gives you very few opportunities other than minimum-wage shop work) which can then lead to university (a great experience and pretty much the only way if you want to get a well paid job at the end of it all). If you move to England then remember to bring your coat! :-)

I think the usual procedure would be stay enrolled at the college you are at and arrange with them to have course materials sent to you electronically, perhaps using Blackboard or something. Not really sure though, homeschooling is pretty unconventional in the UK.
3 :
Well if your parents have a license to educate you at their free will, then yeah, you can be home-schooled. But home-schooling is for people who have been bullied, or don't know what to do anymore, or just can't cope with school and feel like committing suicide.
4 :
Contrary to the belief of some here... Homeschooling is not rare in the UK. However, I'm in the US and don't know the answers to your specific questions. I can at least point you to the right people to ask: http://www.education-otherwise.org/ Education Otherwise should be able to handle any questions you may have. If you can't find the answers browsing their site (or just don't have the time to hunt) then you can use it to contact a local group and ask a live person: http://www.education-otherwise.org/localgroups.htm Good luck!
5 :
Its Quite Easy But You have to go Through The Basic Rules And Guidelines if you do it illegally you could get into serious trouble. use this web cite and followed the rules you have to call a few people up and get recommendation www.education-otherwise.org make shure you read it all. once you have done it all you want get sent work because you are not registered to a school. the only way you could get sent work is if you have to right money to have a privet home tutor which cost around 50-60 pounds a hour. you would have a visitor come after a few months to see how you are doing if you have no produced enough work you will get sent back to school or your mom and dad could get sent to court. i hope i helped.
6 :
The simple answer first. Technically Home Education doesn't really apply to you, as you pointed out you're over school age, so I really wouldn't bother with any of the home ed organisations. Legally you can walk out of FE college any time you like and you don't need anyone to teach you. That said, given that you're already over a term into your second year your college will probably already have you booked to take the exams with them. I would go and talk to your year tutor or someone similar about continuing your studies without physically attending but still taking the exams with them. There's no real practical reason why you shouldn't be able to do that, but the college will no doubt take some convincing that you're going to do the work. They can be fairly flexible, when I was doing my A Levels my college let me take an O Level in a subject they didn't even teach because I convinced them I could do it by myself. Something else to consider is that if your parents are still getting Child Benefit for you they are likely to loose it if you stop going to college. Students who have been home educated before school leaving age are usually accepted for benefits up to 18 but they will probably see you leaving college as leaving full time education.

How can I work in England this summer

How can I work in England this summer?
I am currently living in Canada and have holidays in July and August. I would like to go to England for both months and work to help fund my holiday. It would need to be a live-in job like a summer camp or hotel work. Is there somewhere that has job postings that will hire international employees? Is there anything else I will need to know about in order to work in England? From the research I've done, I shouldn't need a visa or a travel permit, but if you know different, please let me know.

If you go to England for just a couple of months, you will spend at least one month to search for a job there.Than, you spend a good amount of money on living costs there. You will end up almost even. If you want to make a fast buck-go to Russia, Moscow. This is the third most expensive city in the world, but you work on cash there. This country operates on cash! And another thing: If you are good at something like computers, engineering, playing sports or business administration- they will love you and won't let you go back to your country. So do the research what country will pay you the most in a short period of time. Russians are smart, kind and generous. Trust me, I've been there.
2 :
look online for job opportunities in england and then go about the work visa once youve been accepted
3 :
You say that you are living in Canada...but are you Canadian. I ask simply because there are different rules and regulations for different nationalities. If you are not a citizen of the EEA (European Economic Area) you will need a work permit, and to get one of those you will need to have a skill that is in high demand over here, the type of work you are looking for is not classed as being in high demand. However if you are a Canadian citizen then you could always consider coming here under the Youth Mobility Scheme which replaced the Working holiday maker visa in 2008. You can find all the rules etc at this Government Border Agency site... http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/ http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier5/youthmobilityscheme/

Can someone tell me more about the way secondary (private) schools in England work

Can someone tell me more about the way secondary (private) schools in England work?
I need to know in detail how the British Secondary School System works. I'm planning to go there and I need to know if you are trying to apple for 2010/11 when do admissions usually start? How do you earn a scholarship? Please help.

well , i don't go to private school , i go to just a normal high school , however i think it is the same really. you don't mention your age so ill say the ages : ages 11-12 - year 7 ages 12-13 - year 8 ages 13-14 - year 9 ages 14-15 - year 10 ages 15-16 year 11 then you can stay on at sixth form ( basically year 12 and 13 ) which you stay at for 2 years ( this is optional ) then you can go to college and university. if you are applying for 2010 then you will be put on a waiting list , because you will fine most schools will be booked. if you are going for 2010 then you will probably go back after the christmas holidays. earning a scholarship in private school will be slightly different. you may need to take an exam to get in , and most private schools expect you to pay for going to school. so just bare those in mind before moving. to be honest you can try private school , but if you are moving over to here , you need to be aware of costs and things. then you could try a normal high school. Hope this helps

You will not need a converter, which changes 120 to 240 volt, but you will need a plug adapter. The shape of the plug and outlet is different. On this page you will see the different pictures: http://www.powercords.co.uk/standard.htm If it has a grounded plug, with three metal prongs, you will need an adapter plug which has the three metal pins. If it has two metal pins and one plastic, you can get away with a much cheaper and more uniform Europlug adapter.

If you have a uni degree and are quite senior in your career you can apply for the highly skilled migrant program, or you can get a company to sponsor you. Or if your parents or grandparents were born in any of the EU countries you might be able to get a passport and that would allow u to live and work in london. That's what I am trying for. Can a Canadian go to university in England and also work there

Can a Canadian go to university in England and also work there?
I'm planning on going to England, specifically London to go to university or college there and study creative writing. I'm not planning to stay there forever or at least not yet, but I would probably be staying there for four years to finish studying (depending on how long the courses are) and whatever. I'm just wondering though if it's possible to study in England and if so, what do I have to do to get there? And if I can work in England, or do I need to get a citizenship or something.
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You just need to get a student VISA--don't worry, it's not difficult to get one. Yes, Canadians can study at a British university. Typical courses are 3 years, medicine/veterinary science/dentistry is 5 years and some law courses/joint courses/study abroad courses are 4 years. You can get a part-time job during your studies. They limit you to at most 20 hours per week. After university, you can probably work in England if you become a citizen there.
2 :
First you need to get the correct qualifications and be accepted by universities, it's not very easy to get into the universities these days because it's very competitive being as the young people are actually using their brains and are beginning to understand that an higher education degree is vital. In addition, there is always a limited number of places each university offers to foreign students, depending on the course. The less competitive the course you're applying for, the more places might be available to foreigners; take for example medicine, most if not all universities do not offer more than 10 places for foreigners being as there might be only 100 or so places for home students. Basically to be able to study here, you need exceptional educational results and references to get into a good uni. Then after being accepted by a university, you need to go and apply for a student visa(this does not give you the right to work here after your education, it only allows you to stay here as long as your education lasts); if you apply for another type you most probably would not get it at the time. If you're offered a student's visa, you can then come over and study the duration, towards the end of your education, you can apply for a visa to stay(i'm not sure what they're called) if they reject you, then you just have to go back to Canada and if you're desperate to live here, keep reapplying until you get accepted.

How do schools in England work

How do schools in England work?
The teacher at school asked us to find information about other schools in different countries. I chose England but the thing is that I can't find anywhere on the internet any useful information so I'm asking here. What time do you go to school every morning? What subjects are you doing there? Are you studying any other languages except english, which? Do you have a cafeteria and eat there for lunch? Do you have to wear a uniform? Any other detail will be appreciated.

its called secondary school, we have 'years' not 'grades' lol yes we have a cafeteria, yes we wear uniform (public and private) we have to be there for 8.30am and leave at 3.00pm, oh and we only have 5 1/2 weeks of summer holidays, (if your american, i dont know, you have 104 days, ((learnt it off phineas and ferb)) which is quite a looooong time! :). i have picked to take spanish in my options, you can either pick either french or spanish... subjects you pick for year 10 and 11 (including maths, english science, PSHE, P.E and your options) , year 7,8,9 you are given subjects. when you finish, you can either stay in school which is called six form or go college then head off to university hope it helped.
4 :
In case you think English school kids are hard done too with regard to holidays, you should be aware that there are 3/4 week holidays at Christmas and Easter and half term (semester) weeks between these holidays - I think this differs from the US where you just get a couple of days off at holidays with all being aggregated during the summer.

You would possibly need to obtain a working visa - you should contact the Foreign Office who should be able to give you more information on your eligibility to live and work in England.

The UK does have a program where graduates of its universities can stay in the country under the "post study worker scheme". Here is info on all that: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier1/poststudy/ It is also possible that a UK employer would chose to hire you, and sponsor your work visa, but that is highly unlikely unless you study something that is in great demand.

From the frequencies it supports, yes. However, some phones are "SIM-locked", i.e., you cannot use them with cards other than the ones issued by your own provider. If you want to buy a new cellphone card in Germany and put it in, that may not work. To find out if yours is locked and won't work with a different SIM card, you need to ask your provider company. If you do not plan on changing cards, you're phone will most probably work.

I was watching Aussie Ladette to Lady (which is filmed in England like the English version) and they went hunting with their hounds there was about 100 of them! That didnt look like it was banned from where i was sitting! They'd probably train them how to hunt but without them hunting anything, maybe hide dead game in the woods and make it a game for the dogs so they can still use their hunting instinct but not kill anything.. Same with people who have working dogs, but the dog hasnt got sheep to herd, so they let them out in an empty paddock to run around a million miles an hour playing catch for for hours on end. I really dont know! Just a thought of how they would still let their dogs do what they are bred to do. Oh well after reading what John said and reading what deadgame said, now it makes sense..

its fox, boar, deer hunting with horses and hounds that's banned , instead they now lay down a sent trail, a horse and rider set off pulling a linseed scented rag about an hour before the rest of the hunt , the rider goes cross country in any direction for about 2 hours and stops and hides rag rest of hunt will catch up and find the rag so no animals are stressed , injured or killed, not going down well with hunts as its boring as theres no trill of the chase
4 :
What sort of hound do you have? You can do things like scent hunting and retrieving... there are competitions for such events.

She is indeed the Queen. Prince William will become King when she dies, or steps down. Prince Charles, his dad, was going to be King, but since he got divorced, he is no longer in line.
2 :
Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom, this includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The last Queen of England was Queen Anne, circa 1700's.Prince Charles is next in line, being divorced has nothing to do with it.
3 :
Elizabeth isn't the Queen of England, she is Queen of Britain and the Commonwealth (countries like Canada, Australia, Bermuda etc.) There hasn't been a Queen or King of England since the kingdoms of England (which at that time included Wales and Ireland) and Scotland were joined by the 'act of union' in 1707. At that point the King became ruler of England AND Scotland (and Wales and Northern Ireland and the colonies) and so was no longer the King of just England. The next time there will be a King or Queen of England will be if the UK breaks up and England becomes a seperate nation again.
4 :
She is the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. There hasn't been a Queen of England for quite some time now.
5 :
Queen Elizabeth is the Queen of the United Kingdom. Graham Norton is the Queen of England. It is all very confusing.
6 :
The Monarchy of the United Kingdom (commonly referred to as the British monarchy) is the constitutional monarchy of the United Kingdom and its overseas territories. The present monarch, Elizabeth II, has reigned since 6 February 1952. She and her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial and representational duties. As a constitutional monarch, the Queen is limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours. Though the ultimate executive authority over the government of the United Kingdom is still by and through the monarch's royal prerogative, in practice these powers are only used according to laws enacted in Parliament or within the constraints of convention and precedent. The British monarchy traces its origins from the kings of the Angles and the early Scottish kings. By the year 1000, the kingdoms of England and Scotland had resolved from the petty kingdoms of early medieval Britain. The last Anglo-Saxon monarch (Harold II) was defeated and killed in the Norman invasion of 1066 and the English monarchy passed to the Norman conquerors. In the thirteenth century, the principality of Wales was absorbed by England, and the Magna Carta began the process of reducing the political powers of the monarch. From 1603, when the Scottish king James VI inherited the English throne as James I, both kingdoms were ruled by a single monarch. From 1649 to 1660, the tradition of monarchy was broken by the republican Commonwealth of England that followed the War of the Three Kingdoms. In 1707, the kingdoms of England and Scotland were merged to create the Kingdom of Great Britain and, in 1801, the Kingdom of Ireland joined to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The British monarch became nominal head of the vast British Empire, which covered a quarter of the world at its greatest extent in 1921. In 1922, most of Ireland seceded from the Union as the Irish Free State, but in law the monarch remained sovereign there until 1949. After World War II, the declaration of Indian independence effectively brought the British Empire to an end. George VI and his successor, Elizabeth II, adopted the title Head of the Commonwealth as a symbol of the free association of the independent countries comprising the Commonwealth of Nations. In 1931, the unitary British monarchy throughout the empire was split into legally distinct crowns for each of the Commonwealth realms. At present, 15 other independent Commonwealth countries share with the United Kingdom the same person as their monarch. As such, the terms British monarchy and British monarch are frequently still employed in reference not only to the extra-national person and institution shared amongst all 16 of the realms, but also to the distinct monarchies within each of these countries, often at variance with the different, specific, and official national titles and terms for each jurisdiction.
7 :
Well, quite a few people think that she is the Queen of England, and, I suppose you could say that. But that is not her official and correct title. She is actually the Queen of the United Kingdom and th eCOmmonwealth Realms (Canada, Australia, etc). At this time, the next monarch will be King Charles III (not the fourth, as some people think). But if he dies before the Queen does, then his eldest son, Prince William, will become king. There will be a new monarch when the Queen dies.
8 :
The Elizabeth thing is difficult. Elizabeth I was NOT queen of Scotland. So Elizabeth II is Elizabeth I in Scotland. When she dies, Prince Charles will take over, but he'll die before her, and William will be King of the whole place.
9 :
She is Queen of England, Scotland, and Wales, otherwise known as Great Britain, and also of Northern Ireland, which added to Great Britain makes the United Kingdom. It is perfectly all right to refer to her as Queen of England, since she is indeed England's Queen. People who say there isn't any Queen of England are just being silly. Take no notice of them.
10 :
She is Actually she Queen of Great Britain,Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well if she isn't the Queen of England Mabey I Should should be the King.Me and Queen Elizabeth II are 10th cousins 12 times removed . Isn't she? Then where IS she the queen of, then?
12 :
England is part of the United Kingdom.Elizabeth II is the monarch in the United Kingdom. When she dies, her son and heir,Charles becomes King. I suggest you visit this site:http://www.royal.gov.uk/MonarchUK/TheMonarchyToday.aspx England is located on the largest British island of Great Britain, which is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain,Scotland,Wales,Northern Islands, the Channel Islands and the Commonwealth realms and overseas territories. The Queen is monarch of these places: "Monarchy is the oldest form of government in the United Kingdom. In a monarchy, a king or queen is Head of State. The British monarchy is known as a constitutional monarchy. This means that, while The Sovereign is Head of State, the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament. Although the British Sovereign no longer has a political or executive role, he or she continues to play an important part in the life of the nation...." begins the discussion.
13 :
Queen Elizabeth is the Queen of England. When the queen either dies or steps down Prince Charles will become King of England, however his divorced wife CAN NOT be the Queen she has to stay with the title she has right now, whatever that is. She can't be the Queen.
14 :
Elizabeth is Queen of England , Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland. I.E. the United Kingdom. (Kingdom = King's domain). Although she doesn't have much power at all nowadays and a lot of people don't see the point of having monarchy if they don't have any power; apart from providing the huge income from tourism of course. When Elizabeth dies, then the next person in line to the throne becomes king or queen. Prince Charles will be King Charles when Queen Elizabeth dies. After Charles it will be Prince Harry etc etc Im sure you've got the jist of it.
15 :
There is no Queen of england and hasn't been for about 400 years. The Last monarch of England was Queen Elizabeth 1st in the 1500/1600s. She was succeeded by James the 1st who became King of Great Britain which was made up of England and Sciotland. Since then, every king and queen has been the monarch of the United kingdom, which is currently made up of great Britian (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern ireland. Therefore Queen Elizabeth II is queen of of the United Kingdom of Great britain and Northern Ireland. Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, is the queen's eldest son and is therefore the current heir to the throne. He will only be forced by law to abdicate from the throne if he marries a Roman Catholic (this is due to the act of settlememt which bans Britain from ever being ruled by a Catholic monarch)

Will my games bought in England work on my psx (playstation 1) bought in Canada

Will my games bought in England work on my psx (playstation 1) bought in Canada?
I lived in England for a while and I have a TON of psx games from there. I brought my psx and my games with me to Ukraine, they worked there, but my aunt's dog chewed through the cables. I still have the games that were bought in England. I was wondering if they would work on the psx I bought in Canada? If not, what do I do to get them to work? I live in Mississauga right now.

Sorry, but no... England games are PAL (50hz) and Canada systems are NTSC (60hz).... no worky. To get UK games to work, you'll need a PAL region PSX and a TV that is PAL or multisystem... Of course, if it's just the cables that got messed up, the UK PSX that you have should be fine.
2 :
No they will not work UK use PAL and US and Canada use NTSC

you may need a converter for it to work but if you have that then I guess it could work.
3 :
no its region locked. but, because of the exchange rate, you can import games from USA for about the same price.
4 :
No, sadly. The games are region coded. You would need a region-code ignoring device. Which you can purchase, but not at a retail store. Much like a mod chip.
5 :
of course they will work, i can go online on the wii with people in England from Philadelphia, it is one of the most advanced game system so far

Do dvds from england work on american dvds players

1 :
yes they do. the good thing is that movies come out earlier there.
2 :
There are hacks to make it work (like buying a region free DVD player), but on standard region locked DVD player it will not work.
3 :
It should, because a friend of mine sends me DVDs from Amsterdam, Holland and they work for me.
4 :
When my sister was studying there, she tried to have a movie night on her laptop. But they put in the DVD and it didn't work because she had a US laptop and DVDs in England are on the PAL format and the US uses the NTSC format (or so goes my understanding). You can get DVD players that play both, but it's the sort of thing you have to search for. Most people won't have it, so I wouldn't assume that a DVD you bought in England would work in the states.
5 :
DVD's have a region code on them. Your DVD player also has a region code. Those codes must match in order to play. It's easy enough to override the region code on your DVD player. The harder part is the difference in UK and US video standards. UK - 625 lines/frame US - 525 lines/frame UK - 25 frames/second US - 30 frames/second UK - PAL color standard US - NTSC color standard Now, when a DVD is created, it has to be electronically 'compressed' to fit on the DVD. There is a code used for the compression. Your DVD player has a decompressor, which is the same code. If the video has been compressed according to one standard (made in the UK) and uncompressed by a different standard (played in the US), then it's not going to work very well. Think of it as a number code for text where A=1, B=2, and so on where Z=26. But when someone on the receiving end decodes it, HIS decoder has A=26, B=25, etc and Z=1. The message won't make much sense. There are converters so that a standard in one country can be recorded to the standard used in another country, but such converters cost extra money, quite a bit of money. If anyone gets a DVD from a country that uses PAL, and it plays in the US, then the DVD has been specially made and is likely marked NTSC. It would not play very well in the orginal country.

IM SURE YOU WOULD HAVE TO PASS SOME SORT OF AMERICAN TEST TO PRACTICE HERE, BUT THEIR INSTITUTIONS ARE GENERALLY ACCEPTED IN THE U.S.
2 :
sure
3 :
In the US a student has to do 2-4 years of undergraduate work and then go to vet school for 4 more years. In england a veterinarian only has the equivalent of a bachelor's degrees. Most of their vets are not doctors. The system of education isn't easily transfered to the US. It would make more sense if you want to work in the US, then do your undergraduate work in England and then pursue your DVM here in the US. If you want to work in England then it's best to do all of your education there. There are some foreign schools that transfer into the US. (at least one is in England). Those schools are listed along with US schools here: http://www.aavmc.org
4 :
if you do your masters in the UK and want to pursue vet school in the US after wards you need to be aware that most master's programs in the UK are only one year long. some vet schools in the US may not think that u got enough experience in a one year program to join their school and may make you take some extra courses to get a US masters degree equivalent.
