No, you can't change your status once you're in the UK If you enter the UK as a tourist, you leave as a tourist - you can't even look for work while you're here If you want to live & work in the UK, you need to return home & apply from there The only other way around it is if you can citizenship of an EU member state through a parent (or grandparent in a limited number of countries) but you would still have needed to enter the UK on that country's passport in order to legally live & work in the UK
