+The AC in Europe is different than the U.S. My advice would be to buy yourself a converter for Europe. It's better to spend a few bucks and be sure than to fry your laptop trying to pinch a penny. What would a new laptop cost as opposed to buying the converter? Think about it.
2 :
The prong should be fine.
3 :
Yes you will be fine if the plug input says 120-240 as it will self regulate
4 :
Most modern laptops will support both will support both power types, so a plug adapter is all you need. I've done it many times all over Europe. If you are worried check the manufacturers website for your model, but I'm sure you will be OK. Cell phone and camera chargers should also be OK but check the manufacturer's website to be certain. I fried a portable printer by not checking. For such a small thing it made a loud bang! Hope this helps

How will you get the work permit to live and work in the UK? The parliament is passing legislation to actively decrease the total number of immigrants coming to its country. If you are not a resident or Citizen of the UK will you be allowed to handle sensitive work like crime scene work? I do not believe your plan will succeed. You might be best off staying in the USA.

If you want to work in the UK legally, I'm sure that the closest British embassy or consulate to your location would be able to provide you with visa information. There may be some websites that give information on British immigration law too.
2 :
If you wish to work in the United Kingdom then it is possible for you to come to the U.K. as a tourist and legally look for work, it is also legal as a tourist to attend any job interviews which you receive. The only problem is that if you are successful and offered a job then the employer must file for a work permit on your behalf and you would have to return home and then obtain entry clearance as a work permit holder. All this information can be found on the following websites.
3 :
The Program (HSMP UK) was created for highly skilled individuals wishing to remain or to come to the United Kingdom to work as employed or self-employed persons. ~You do not need a prior offer for a job or to take up self employment opportunities in order to have your visa application approved by the Home Office's Immigration and Nationality Directorate. \ ~You can apply to come and seek for jobs or self-employment opportunities in the United Kingdom. ~We can apply for you directly to Work Permits (UK), obtain an official approval letter and than prepare the application for the British Embassy or the Consulate in the country where you are resident.

Can an American check work in England

Can an American check work in England?
I live in America and there's a product I would like to buy in England. However, they say they take only check or money order. Can an American Check work in England? Or do I have to buy an international money order for this purchase?

Better to go with International money order. While the company might accept the cheque, it will take a LONG time to clear and the company will probably have to pay a hefty bank fee, which reduces the amount available for your purchase. And increases the time it will take for you to receive it.

it mostly depends on ur DVD player... how high-tech it is... there are regions for DVD... so check ur DVD Player if it can play DVD's from England... i think thats Region 2. USA is Region 1. good luck..
2 :
yes, it should if your DVD isn't a really old one, but most importantly check to make sure its an actual DVD. Even though this seems obvious, many people make mistakes like this. Mp3 CD's are very popular in other countries and they use mp3 cds instead of dvds. Make sure your dvd can play mp3 cds, just in case the dvd was mislabled. good luck

If she can qualify for enough points to immigrate on her own then she can apply for a visa to live and work in the UK. She will get points for her education and her work experience as well as points based on the salary she makes right now. This really favours people with post graduate degrees and high paying professional jobs. That can easily take over six months but may be faster. If you have been living with her in another country for 2 years then she would qualify for a domestic partner visa but I suspect this is not the case. If she doesn't have the education and job skills to qualify by herself then marriage may be your only option.

Yeah, you'll get around £5-6.50 an hour, here's some guidance from the visa office Can I work? You can take part-time or holiday work, but you must not: * work for more than 20 hours a week during term time unless your placement is part of your studies, has been agreed with your educational institution and leads to a degree or qualification awarded by a nationally recognised examining body * do business, be self-employed or provide services as a professional sportsperson or entertainer, or * work full-time in a permanent job. If you're on a student visa, you'll be fine; but you might want to condsider which city you'll be moving to, and then looknig up jobs online. Your best bet would be in the retail or catering sector, unless you're doing something like a comp sci degree. If there's any more questions, feel free to ask, Jess

My Dad travels back and forth and always brings his laptop, and he says you just need a power adapter.
2 :
It should work just fine. You may need a power adapter though for charging it. Also, if you are planning on using it to play DVD movies note that you may have issues as if it is sold in the US it will be set to DVD Region 1 and may not play DVDs made / sold in England. If that's the case, you can usually change the DVD Region through the software, however they usually only allow you to change the DVD region 3 times, then it's frozen. Data DVDs will work just fine though.
3 :
electricity ports are different so yes, you'll need an adapter. otherwise it should work just fine.

Yes, but u may need an adapter 4 the charging lead, i beleive the usa uses 2 pin plug? Uk is 3 pin, adapter r readerly available in the uk

How can I work in England

How can I work in England?
I am currently a United States citizen. I am 22 and my boyfriend is British and lives in England. I would like to work there but do not know the rules or how to go about applying for a job. I would greatly appreciate if someone could explain this in detail to me. Thank you! I need to know things such as: How long can I work in England for? Where do I apply for a work visa? How do I apply for a job in another country? Any other rules.

In order to work in the UK you will need a work permit, BUT and it's a big BUT, you will need exceptional skills and experience that are in demand in the UK. Given your age you will not qualify. The rules are similar in the USA so he will not be able to work there either. If you really want be be together you need to try to find a country that will accept you both. Personally I can't suggest one.
2 :
Try Google. You have no chance.
3 :
Im wanting to move there aswell within the next year. I think, to work there, you should have some kind of british citizenship, which i was looking into getting a Dual passport. Then im sure you have to live there. When I was talking to my cousin that lives there, she said once I get there its best to look for a job. There are also websites that will tell you open jobs, and im sure there, you can figureout the qualifications needed to work there. Im not too sure on the Work visa, but yeah im pretty sure you need one.
4 :
As you are not a citizen of the EEA (European Economic Area) you are going to need a work permit and to get one of those you are going to have to be educated to at least Master's Degree level or have a skill which is in high demand here. All the rules and regulations are to be found at this Government Border Agency site... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/
5 :
Sorry, but we have a lot of questions like this. We can not just come and settle in the US, can we? I have family in the States, and we are now choosing to travel less and less, because of the way we are treated at immigration. We now even have to pay money for a 3 year permission to travel document! We are not the 51st state, just because we also speak English. If you really want to settle here and be with your man, marry him. Others have warned you about the strict rules. We need such, because we are a very crowded country and also,as a member of the European Union, we have free movement of people and labour within the union, which covers a lot of non skilled jobs in some areas.
6 :
Unless you are graduating with a masters, you stand little chance of getting a work visa. The UK work visa system is points based. Points are awarded for age, qualifications, earning capacity (past or future), UK experience (work or study), knowledge of English and maintenance funds. There are restrictions on the number of work permits at the moment while the whole immigration system is under review. For a Tier 1 visa, you need a masters or to have been earning the equivalent of £35,000 per year. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf21pbsgeneralmigrant For a Tier 2 visa, you need a degree level qualification and a UK employer willing and licenced by UKBA to employ a non EEA national, who has advertised the post for four weeks across the job centre network and in trade and national press, and who can prove that not one single suitably qualified EEA national applied. This is called the resident market test. The only time employers don't need to apply the resident market test is if the post is on the shortage occupations list. These are mostly specialist posts in medicine, science and engineering. Secondary maths and pure science teachers, special needs teachers, veterinary surgeons, paediatric dentists, cardiac physiologists, soil mechanics engineers and neonatal intensive care nurses are examples of some of the occupations currently on the list. At your age, you would probably not yet have the work experience to qualify for most of these posts. Another option would be to work for a US company that has branches in the UK and obtain an intra company transfer visa. Again, for you to be able to stay for more than a few months, you would need to be highly skilled. Graduate trainees are only allowed to stay for three months on this visa. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf26pbsskilledworker Your other options are a settlement visa as an unmarried partner, fiance or spouse. An unmarried partner visa is only granted where the couple can prove that they have lived together for a minimum of two years. You will need official evidence of this such as rent agreements in both names, joint bank accounts, utility bills etc that cover the whole two year period. A fiance visa is a temporary six month visa that allows you to enter the UK to marry. You will need to provide proof of your plans to marry and you cannot work on this visa. Once you are married you can apply for a spouse visa, either after you marry in the UK or if you marry in the US, before you travel to the UK. For all settlement visas, the conditions are that you must both be over 21, have met and intend living in the UK as a couple. You must have adequate accommodation arranged and must be able to show evidence that you can support yourselves without recourse to public funds (welfare). You also have to provide evidence that the relationship is genuine. Here's a link to further info on settlement visas. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/settlementguide

If they are American TV sets, not. They use different frequencies and RF offsets there. The UK is almost done with digital now, and is digital only in places. To use it in either place, you can use their digital converter (in the UK, it is known as a Freeview box). There is a chance it might work with straight PAL video signals

How does the government work in England

How does the government work in England?
I've been paying attention to the recent elections in Great Britain recently and it's interested to me how they do things a little differently. I've known that the Monarch is largely ceremonial and considered a head of state. The Prime Minister position has me most confused. David Cameron is likely to be the next Prime Minister of Great Britain, and the new head of government. I think I am confused, because there is no official election for Prime Minister of Great Britain. Mr. Cameron is leader of the party with the most legislative seats. So...is the Prime Minister of Great Britain similar to our Speaker of the House. The Speaker was not elected by the people as Speaker, but because her party has the most legislative seats they (the legislators) elected her Speaker (just as I am assuming Cameron will be elected by the legislators in England). Am I correct? I know that the President is elected by the electoral college. I'm wondering if the Prime Minister is elected by the British Parliament, which I guess is similar to our system, because the electoral college is basically the Congress.
Government - 1 Answers

Once a Prime Minister is selected, they serve until they resign or a vote of no confidence hits the floor. Then elections begin, England is a multi-party system (more than 2 parties) so their isn't always a majority. The majority winners of elections get together and compromise on a leader. Technically, in the US, the president is NOT selected by voters. A political party is selected by voters and each state seats electors delegated to vote on behalf of that party. Electors are not required to vote for the person they pledged to vote for. It is the electoral college that actually casts the votes for president, the popular votes chooses who the electors are. I know it says "Obama" or "McCain" on the ballot, but you are technically voting for Democrats or Republicans when you vote in the US.

No you can't, you will have to go through all the process again, but according to British rules. If you want to know about it, just plug on the web UK driving Licensing DVLA. You can't even secure any international driving license at this stage, anywhere. And regulations in other EU countries are quite similar. (Don't forget that Britain is driving left side, with left-handed wheel cars).
5 :
Hi. The UK authorities only recognise a full licence from 'designated countries' such as New Zealand. Unfortunately, you will be eligible to apply only for a provisional licence with all the restrictions that entails. You don't say how old you are - but please remember that the starting age for driving a car in the UK is 17.

How does the government work in England and Ireland compared to the U.S.

How does the government work in England and Ireland compared to the U.S.?
I've heard a lot of people saying lately that the current government in the U.S. is too centralized, that it is becoming comparable to Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union and to I can see that. But some of these people are saying that they're better off moving to Europe, but I was just wondering what the governments is like in England and Ireland, to see if it is indeed better.

The Prime Minister and cabinet are answerable to Parliament, but there is almost no separation of powers between the executive and legislature in the UK, and the executive often dominates the House of Commons especially. The executive in the US has much more power than in the United Kingdom, but the legislature is also much more powerful - which balances things out. Also, there is less centralisation in the US due to the federal structure of the states. So it's hard to say which - if any - is better.

If I buy an adapter in Ireland, will it also work in England

If I buy an adapter in Ireland, will it also work in England?
I live in the U.S. and am going abroad to Ireland and England this summer. I'll need to buy an adapter for my laptop, hair straightener, etc. and I heard it's easier to buy one when I get there rather than beforehand. Will I be able to use the adapters I buy in Ireland, in England as well? Or will I need to buy another one in England? Any other adapter-related tips? I've never been abroad before. Thanks!
Other - United Kingdom - 6 Answers

1 :
England and Ireland use the same system and plug configuration. You will only need one adaptor
2 :
The first answer is correct and you should only need a UK-type 3-prong adapter for both England and Ireland. This website has images, but you can get adapters at luggage shops and electronics stores: http://www.adaptelec.com/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&cPath=15&products_id=211 Laptops and chargers for electronic devices usually operate on any voltage and all you need is an adapter to plug the 2 or 3 prong American plug into a UK outlet. Do look on the power supply for each item and make sure it accepts 220 or 240 volts. Most adapters you buy in luggage shops only work with a 2-prong American plug. Your laptop's power supply almost certainly has a 3-prong (grounded) plug and you need to get an adapter to fit. I use a multi-adapter that's also a surge protexctor for my laptop. Below is an example, but I got mine at BestBuy: http://studenttravel.about.com/od/techtoys/gr/electricadapter.htm Avoid taking anything that needs a voltage converter. Appliances like hair dryers and curling irons tend to not work well with a converter. Unless you have dual-voltage appliances, it's better to just get them at your destination. There are many shops in Britian that are a lot like Walgreens, and getting the appliances locally may even cost less than buying a converter. Many stores only sell "sets" of adapters. I have stayed at hotels in London that had a mix of UK and Continetal outlets, so also having an adapter for 2-round-prong outlets won't hurt. Many hotels have in-room Internet via ethernet cable (not wireless). All of the hotels would provide a cable on request, but their cables are very short (often only one foot long). Consider taking your own ethernet cable, especially if you want to use your laptop other than at the desk in the room. Hope you have a good trip!
3 :
England and Ireland is the same , the adaptor it will work
4 :
Ireland and UK have the same plug sizes and electricity supply, so whatever works for Ireland will work in England. It's like going from the US to Canada. For your hair straightener, you'll need a UK power adapter. Basically, the power adapter will change the voltage from 240 V to 120 V. These can be had in electronics or hardware stores. Your hair straightener will require lots of power, so when selecting a power adapter make sure you bring your hair straightener and ask for assistance from a store clerk to make sure the power adapter is powerful enough. In case you'll need it for other appliances, make sure it is a power adapter that is not just for a heating device. See, there's two kinds of power adapters, general-duty and heating-only, and the ones that are just for heating devices (like kettles or hair dryers) can't handle electronics. Don't pay more than 30$, and make sure it's light, these things are essentially just blocks of iron, so the bigger they are the heavier they are! For your laptop computer, you should just need a plug adapter. To make sure that this is all you need, read the name plate on your laptop power adapter (the big black box); if it says something like "50 Hz - 60 Hz, 100 V - 240 V", then it means all you need is a plug adapter. When shopping, make sure it's a UK plug adapter; someone already posted what these look like. These plug adapters go for 10$ at Wal-Mart or Best Buy, but can be had for 5$ if you shop a little. Get two of them if you have more than a few appliances with you. To be on the safe side, bring your laptop plug with you and make sure it fits well, many of them don't fit easily due to poor manufacturing (in China), and you don't want to be stuck with a bad plug adapter when you really need it. And as another poster said, make sure it has three prongs. My personal suggestion to you is to go to an electronics store everything you want to bring with you, and have them help you select what works best for you. It's hard to tell without seeing all the stuff you want to bring with you. Oh yeah, don't wait to buy it in the UK or Ireland, things are extremely expensive there, it's generally 2X the price.
5 :
yes,you can ,one adapter need only
6 :
Nope we have the same sockets, but if you are going to Continental Europe you will need a different adapter

nursery- 4-5 reception-5-6 primary school- 6-11 secondary school- 11-16 then you can choose to carry on to sixth form or college, the stereotype is that college is usually for the lower academic achievers. sixth form- 16-18 college-16 + university- 18+ hope this helps.

How does the schooling system work in England

How does the schooling system work in England?
I'm just curious, I always knew that the schooling system would be different from where I live in Canada, but in the YA questions I've read, it seems A LOT more different than I thought it would be. Can someone explain their education system. Like here it's Elementary School Middle School High School Community College/College/University Then Grad school if you get a Bachelors degree. What's it liek there? Thanks in advance :) wow, its really not that different, lol, great answers though ill pick one when it lets me :)

nursery / pre-school primary school secondary school college university kinda sucks if you ask me.. the guy below me has ages .. just choose him :)
2 :
Age 0-3 - Nursery (optional) Age 4-11 - Primary school Age 12-16 - Secondary school Age 17/18 - College (optional) Age 18+ University (optional) We also have apprenticeships where at 18+ you can go to work with someone who does a job, and learn how to do their job. These are called NVQ training.
3 :
Primary school Secondary school 16-18 College/school (most secondary schools offer this) University
4 :
Primary School Secondary School 6th Form College Then College or University are both optional
5 :
Well in Scotland it goes like this : ages 4/5 usally 5 - Primary School Ages 11/12 - Secondary School Age 16 - you can leave school or stay on at secondary Age 18 - Secondary 6th year Then you can go to College or University or go into a job You have to stay on till you are 16 and once then you can go into college to do highers (whatever you want) then you can go into University.
6 :
Hmm English education system I can't help you with in detail but I think it's similar to our education system (Scotland) Here's how ours goes: Nursery School (ages 3-4) Primary School (5-11) Academy (11-17) (Secondary School) College (if you didn't get the grades you need to get into Uni, if you did you can go straight to University after school, or if you just want to do a college course which you can reach a Higher National Diploma as the highest certificate which is equivalent to 2nd year at University) University where we get all our degrees from Bachelors to Masters and Phd's etc.

Anyone know how long of a day a factory worker would work in England during the 1780's

Anyone know how long of a day a factory worker would work in England during the 1780's?
Also anyone know what kind of things were being made at the factories? Anything big involving metal?

1 :
12 to 15 hours a day. The English industrial revolution was brutal beyond belief, The factories turned out all sorts of commercial/indusrial and consumer goods, and killed their workers in the process. Foundries, turning out large metal objects like steam engines for other factories, were not common but there were some.
2 :
maybe about 10-12 hours including children. Remember there weren't any child labor laws back then.

David Rowland worked as a scavenger at a textile mill in Manchester. He was interviewed by Michael Sadler's House of Commons Committee on 10th July, 1832. Question: At what age did you commence working in a cotton mill? Answer: Just when I had turned six. Question: What employment had you in a mill in the first instance? Answer: That of a scavenger. Question: Will you explain the nature of the work that a scavenger has to do? Answer: The scavenger has to take the brush and sweep under the wheels, and to be under the direction of the spinners and the piecers generally. I frequently had to be under the wheels, and in consequence of the perpetual motion of the machinery, I was liable to accidents constantly. I was very frequently obliged to lie flat, to avoid being run over or caught. This may also interest you. My husband is in the Air Force. Can I work in England

My husband is in the Air Force. Can I work in England?
Hi, my husband in in the US Air Force, and we will be stationed in England. I am wondering if I can get a job in England, not on base, off base. I am a certified chef, and would like to learn and have cooking experience while I am there. Do I need to apply for a work permitt to work off base in England?
Military - 5 Answers

1 :
You can work on base. (Why would you ever even want to leave the base?)
2 :
Most likely you could work off base. As far as a work permit not sure but while I was in they accepted the spouse of military person to work outside the post. I would check your local USO or PCS station to find some of this information out...
3 :
Technically, yes. And a work visa. But there are lots of spouses who do it all the time. Just remember that the UK has an EXTREMELY high taxation rate, and you'll end up paying in about 40% of your salary to taxes and the NHS, and you can't opt out of either one. On the up side, you can choose to either exlude your foreign earned income (form 2555) or recieve a credit for taxes paid to a foreign gov't (form 1116). Which base are you headed to? We are currrently stationed in the UK. Feel free to contact me off YA.
4 :
you should be able to..a base agency will be able to let you know if you can.when we lived in japan there were quite a few spouses who worked off base and didnt have to have anything other than their passport...
5 :
depends on the SOFA regulations. Most do NOT permit spouses to work on the economy, as that is taking jobs away from Local Citizens.

May I work in England or Scotland

May I work in England or Scotland ?
Hi, I have studied civil engineering in Turkey. I am planning on applying to Structural Engineering Masters Program in England next year. If I get accepted, and get my degree on Structural Engineering in England, can I find a job in this area? For example, foreign doctors can not work in Turkey. Is there such rule in England? (or Scotland) Thank you.

I jus got back from de pub, mate. Such a heavy question. Best thing is to ask the town's rep in Parliment what he/she thinks.
2 :
regarding structural engineering there are no restrictions on where you gained the qualifications from. as long as the qualification is accepted (something like that standard would) and obviously the required work permits. england and scotland don't differ very much in terms of regulations.
3 :
Turkey isn't in the EU yet is it? So you would haveto get a work permit. Once you had that though england & Scotland are part of one country (the UK) so you could work in either country or even Wales or Northern Ireland if you wanted too.

In recent years there has been an attempt by government to standardise more of the curriculum. They have done this through the QCA system and the National Curriculum. they have even released lesson plans etc which are given to teachers and advisors help to filter that down through the LEAs (Local Education Authorities). However, much of this has been recommended rather than compulsory, and private schools don't have to conform. Traditionally there has been more flexibility and room for imaginative teachers to devise their own schemes within parameters. Though private schools don't have to conform, over time the external exams such as GCSE and A level change to reflect the way most school's curriculums have changed, so the private schools have to fit in with these changes eventually even if less stringently. The alternative is to change from the traditional external exams - indeed in recent years many schools - state and private in the UK - have started to use the IB (International baccalaureate) which remains a wider based curriculum. Universities say the A level has become easier and that has made it harder for them to identify the candidates most suited to their courses. My own view is that the best teaching needs an element of diversity and spontaneity and we are in danger of reducing the chance that happens.

Should do Nintendo DS are region free
3 :
The DS works with no problems, same goes for Japanese DS or DS Lite (all your games will appear in the language of the game, not console so you're okay there too). Where you will find a problem is with the U.S. power adapter which will operate in 110v only, whereas the U.K. adapter works in 110v or 240v. However, you can get a USB charger for about £5 on eBay or buy a DS charger for a bit more from GAME shops. I have the USB charger, much more useful. It's still a lot cheaper than geting a U.K. DS Lite, even if you add buying a charger that will work in the U.K.!

CDs will work, no problem. DVDs, however, are region coded and have other technical issues around them. To get the DVD to play, either get a region-free DVD player, or use a program like DVDShrink to rip & re-encode the DVD without the region setting.

CDs always work around the country, but DVDs are more highly protected and only work within the same country/continent.

Yes, but you'll have to change most of the settings.
2 :
For calls and texts, maybe. You have to unlock it to use it. And you won't get 3G data on it because AT&T uses different data frequencies than you do in the UK. By the way, just in case you didn't know this, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to do this. When you buy an iPhone in the US, you *must* get a contract. That's why the price is so "low." The phone is subsidized on a two-year contract, and as a foreign national, you won't qualify.

What should I do first to work in England - get a job or get a visa?
Hi, I'm thinking of moving to England to work, but I'm not sure on what I need to do first - apply for jobs and only then when I've been accepted for the job to get a work visa, or get a work visa first, then apply for jobs? I also thought I read that for a work visa, the UK border control asks for my UK address - so would I have to find work AND a place to live before I apply for a work visa? Oh, sorry - I'm from the US

When asking a question like that, make sure you tell us where you live. Without it we can't answer your question unless we guess! If you are highly qualified you may get a visa and a job, but if you are not, then finding work will be almost impossible right now. If you were from another EU country you wouldn't need a visa, but the same would apply about finding a job, near on impossible right now.
2 :
There are two ways of approaching towards working in the United Kingdom. You get a visa first and then start seeking for a job or you find a company willing to instate and sponsor you first, and then apply for the visa. To get the visa first you need to have certain qualifications, and must have made a certain amount of money before tax deduction during the last year or a period of 12 months out of the last 15 months. You also need to show sufficient funds (at least $ 4.390) to cover your initial stay in England. Examples for visa eligibility: a) bachelor's degree, 28 years, last years earnings: + $ 62.680 b) master's degree, 30 years, last years earnings: + $ 78.350 c) PHD, 34 years, last years earnings: + $ 54.845 d) PHD, 28 years, last years earnings: + $ 47.010 e) no degree, last years earnings: + $ 235,050 The visa application involves a fee of $ 1,104.00 http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf21pbsgeneralmigrant#21980509 .. Sponsored skilled worker categories are: • General – for people coming to the United Kingdom with a job offer to fill a gap that cannot be filled from within the resident or EU labour force. This category is also for applicants coming to fill shortage occupations. ◙ [Note: almost impossible to find at the current economical situation] ◙ • Intra-company transfer - for employees of multi-national companies who are being transferred to a United Kingdom based branch of the same organisation either on a long term basis or frequent short visits. There are 3 sub-categories of Intra-Company Transfer: — Established Staff – for established employees of multi-national companies who are being transferred to a skilled job that could not be carried out by a new recruit from the resident labour workforce. — Graduate Trainee – for recent graduates of multi-national companies who are being transferred t the UK branch of the same organisation as part of a structured graduate training programme, which clearly defines progression towards a managerial or specialist role. — Skills transfer – for new recruits of multi-national companies who are being transferred to learn the skills and knowledge needed overseas. The visa application involves a fee of $ 432.00 http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf26pbsskilledworker#21982930 ..

1st off the iPhone comes from AT&T, not T-Mobile. If you got either phone unlocked or an unlocked phone period it will be able to work. Actually those 2 phones locked will be able to work in England, only thing though is that you will have to pay roaming charges while using it there. Plus the iPhone (upon purchase) will require you to sign a 2 year contract. I am not sure about the G1 but I am pretty much sure it is the same. You could buy the iPhone in England through O2 & I would expect that T-Mobile England would have the G1.

Gruetzi! Ok, so I worked in Switzerland and England, so I know a little about both systems. You will need to apply for a work visa for the UK. If you have some family connections, it makes that so much easier. Also, if you have a job lined up before you go, it makes the process much easier, too. Since I was in the UK as a teacher, I had to apply for a Holiday Maker, which allowed me to work for 1 year. You can check out this website for information and application. You should also seek advice from the British consulate, most likely in Bern. Ich wunsche dich eine geute!

Depends on the settings of the phone and the rules of the company. Some do, some will not, but all that work will be way more expensive when used in Spain. If you want to use a phone in England mainly and a little in Spain, tell the people in the shop, so they can sell you one that will work. And they can also help you with the settings of the phone and 'contract' so that it will work there. If you want to use it as much, or more, in Spain, better buy a prepaid phone in Spain too.

Probably not. You must go to your phone carrier and pay for that extra service. You may need to upgrade your phone also.
2 :
yes it will
3 :
Depends on your phone and who you are with. Most phones can be set up to make roaming calls, but beware...they will cost a fortune. You would be better keeping in touch through some internet based communication set up such as Skype
4 :
Yes it will there is a 50/50 chance yes or no that it will or wont work but call your carrier and ask you might have to pay an extra fee.
5 :
The more expensive U.S. phones (3-band and i-phones) do work in Europe, and you can buy discounted international roaming. Beware, though, that it may be hard to figure out how to dial calls, because the phone will act like it's in the U.S., and you'll have to dial international access codes for what would otherwise be local calls, and those can be hard to figure out. (On the other hand, the phone will be great for calling back to the U.S.) I have been told (but have never personally tried this, because I usually visit several different countries) that you can get a local SIM card for your compatible U.S. phone and that works very well in a single country. If you currently have a compatible phone, buying 3 months of international discounted coverage from your carrier may well be worth the effort. It has been for me.

Our whole schooling system works in a completely different way to the US one. Year 9 for us, would be your 8th grade. Our compulsory school years only go up to Year 11, the school year in which everyone turns 16. During Year 10 and 11 (Grade 9 and 10), we complete our GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education). GCSEs involve both exams and Controlled Assessments. These are similar to exams, but we are told what we will be answering before we enter, and in some subjects you are given notes or a dictionary to help. After Year 11, you then have the option to stay on at school for Year 12 and 13 (Grade 11 and 12) to complete A-Levels, or a qualification similar to this, such as a BTEC. After that of course, those who attain good A-Levels can go on to study at University. We don't have GPA's here. From Year 1 to Year 9, we get given National Curriculum Levels. These range from Level 1 to Level 8, Level 8 being the highest possible that you can achieve. However, you can only work your way up these levels as you progress through school. So, you wouldn't be able to get a Level 8 for a subject when you are only in Year 3 (Grade 2). Each of the levels is categorized into letters. A, B and C. A means that someone is achieving well at this level, and is almost ready to move onto the next level (from Level 7 to 8, for example), B means that you are in the middle, and C is what you usually get when you've just moved up to a new level. These levels then help our teachers to see the improvements we've made over our school years, and, at the end of Year 9, it helps them to predict our grades for our GCSEs. Level 8 - A* Level 7 - A Level 6 - B Level 5 - C Level 4 - D Level 3 - E Level 2 - F Level 1 - G And, answering the other question, aged 14, you would be in: Year 9 - If your birthday is between 1st September 1996 and 1st September 1997 Year 10 - If your birthday is between 1st September 1995 and 1st September 1996

Yes, we call them years, not grades. Primary school (the equivalent of elementary school) consists of 'reception' class (like kindergarten), year 1, year 2, year 3, year 4, year 5 & year 6. Secondary school (equivalent of middle school) is year 7 through to year 11. year 11 in England is eqaul to 10th grade in the US. This is because in England we start school at the ages 4-5 whilst in the US you start at the ages 5-6. If you'll 14 you'll be in year 10 (or nearing the end of year 9). After year 11, when most people are ages 15/16 we are legally allowed to leave school and basically be done with our education for good, however many do go onto further education - such as college, or to sixth form' which for years 12 & 13, to complete A-Level exams. After you've taken A-levels or have some other form of qaulification from college or whatever, you can apply to go to university, which is a different thing from college in England (I think they're more similar in the US?) We don't have GPA's. We are graded on our peices of work but year 7-9 they're only real purpose is for teachers and the school to keep track of how you're doing and your ability level at a subject etc. Grades only really start to matter in year 10 and 11, which are the years you do GCSE exams (these exams are needed to go into most forms or further education e.g. most sixth forms require at least 5 A*-C grades in order to get into them . . . some can be pickier) In year 10 you pick the subjects you want to study for your GCSE's (you generally take about 9 I think, and doing English, maths and science is compulsory). Your final GCSE grade in a subject is usually a combination of your final exam grade, and the grades of your subject coursework (essays and other projects) you've done over the year (some subjects don't require any coursework). Each grade of a piece coursework is a percentage of your final grade (e.g. in English one essay might be 35% of your over all grade, a presentation may count towards 10% and the exam may be 55% of your overall grade. This percentages varies depending on the subject and exam board). The grades range frm grade A - U. Anything above a U is officially considered a pass but like I said, most sixth forms and colleges require you have a certain number of grades C and above. When you take A-levels, in year twelve you take AS exams and in year 13 you take A-level exams. Both equal half of your overall A-level grade. Some subjects require coursework, but not many. In year 12 you generally take about 4 subjects of your choice and so take 4 AS exams. It is common and reccomended that you drop one of these subjects and take only 3 A-level exams in year 13. Most leave sixth form (or college, as you can also take A-levels there) with 3 A levels and 1 AS level. The grades range from A*- U and the grades are then converted into tariff/UCAS points, when appying to university to take a degree. E.g. A university may require you to have at least 300 points in order to take their English course. I believe an A* = 140 points, A= 120, B=100, etc.
